CIVILIAN SOLDIER REHABILITATION PROGRAM (CSRP) v3.0
"The Armor of God Edition"
Objective: Return to "Unlimited Community Ambulation" (K4/K5) within 6 months.
Target: High-Activity Lifestyle (Tours, Violin, Outdoors).
PHASE 1: THE "BASE OF FIRE" (Weeks 1–2)
Goal: Wound Healing & Psychological Hardening
Military Concept: Protect the "Weapon" (Your Body) while the "Shrapnel" (Inflammation) clears.
DAILY SCRIPTURE & REFLECTION (Morning):
"Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil." — Ephesians 6:11
Reflection: Today, I protect my body as I would a temple. The swelling is the enemy's attack; my faith and care are my shield.
EXERCISE 1: RESIDUAL LIMB DESENSITIZATION (Morning)
- Equipment: Yoga Mat.
- Description: Gently massage the residual limb ("Nub") using the texture of the yoga mat. Rub in circular motions.
- Clinical Purpose: Waking up the nerves. This prevents "Phantom Pain" by forcing the brain to acknowledge the new anatomy immediately.1
- Log: _____ / 5 Minutes.
EXERCISE 2: SEATED ROW (Total Gym - Level 5)
- Description: Pull handles toward chest, squeezing shoulder blades together.
- Clinical Purpose: Strengthens the Latissimus Dorsi and Rhomboids. Essential for pulling yourself out of chairs and stabilizing the body during crutch walking.
- Log: _____ / 3 Sets of 12 Reps.
EXERCISE 3: CHEST PRESS (Total Gym - Level 5)
- Description: Push handles away from chest.
- Clinical Purpose: Builds Pectoralis Major and Triceps. These muscles power your walker/crutches and help you rise from seated positions.
- Log: _____ / 3 Sets of 12 Reps.
EXERCISE 4: WALL-ASSISTED AB ROLLOUT (Evening)
- Equipment: Ab Wheel (Placed against wall).
- Description: Kneel on Yoga Mat. Roll wheel out until chest touches handle, then push back up.
- Clinical Purpose: Builds "Core Armor." The Ab Wheel targets the Rectus Abdominis, creating a solid cylinder of muscle to support your lower back and spine.
- Log: _____ / 3 Sets of 8 Reps.
END OF DAY THANKFULNESS:
"But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." — Isaiah 40:31
Reflection: I am healing. I am strong. My spirit is renewed even as my body rests.
PHASE 2: THE "COUNTER-OFFENSIVE" (Weeks 3–6)
Goal: Shaping the Limb & Advanced Conditioning
Military Concept: "Early Weight Bearing" (EWB) on the Good leg to build power for the Prosthetic.1
DAILY SCRIPTURE & REFLECTION (Morning):
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might." — Ephesians 6:10
Reflection: My strength does not come from the muscle alone, but from the Lord who empowers it. I am moving from defense to offense.
EXERCISE 1: EDEMA MASSAGE (Morning)
- Description: Apply lotion. Massage from the bottom of the Nub upward toward the heart.
- Clinical Purpose: Drains fluid (Lymphatic Drainage). Reduces swelling ("Edema") so the prosthetic fits perfectly. Prevents pain in the socket.
- Log: _____ / 5 Minutes.
EXERCISE 2: ARM ERGOMETER (Elliptical - Feet on Platforms)
- Equipment: Elliptical (Stationary Handles ONLY).
- Description: Place feet on side platforms. Use arms only to pump for 20 minutes.
- Clinical Purpose: Builds Cardiovascular Endurance without impacting the Nub. The "Arm Ergometer" is the gold standard for amputee cardio.2
- Log: _____ / 20 Minutes.
EXERCISE 3: UNILATERAL LEG PRESS (Total Gym - Level 6)
- Description: Place "Good" foot on squat stand. Push sled up.
- Clinical Purpose: The Primary Driver. This builds explosive power in the Quadriceps. This is the engine that will push the prosthetic forward during your gait.
- Log: _____ / 3 Sets of 15 Reps.
EXERCISE 4: SEATED LEG CURL (Total Gym - Level 6)
- Description: Hook heels under bar. Curl heels to glutes.
- Clinical Purpose: Strengthens Hamstrings. Crucial for knee stability and preventing back pain caused by gait imbalances.
- Log: _____ / 3 Sets of 12 Reps.
EXERCISE 5: ANTI-ROTATION BAND PRESS (Evening)
- Equipment: Resistance Bands.
- Description: Stand sideways to the anchor. Press band across body.
- Clinical Purpose: Simulates "Torque." Walking creates rotational forces. This trains the Obliques to stabilize the spine, preventing falls on uneven ground.
- Log: _____ / 3 Sets of 12 Reps.
END OF DAY THANKFULNESS:
"I can do all things through him who strengthens me." — Philippians 4:13
Reflection: I have the tools. I have the strength. I can do this.
PHASE 3: "OPERATIONAL READINESS" (Weeks 7–12)
Goal: First Steps & Gait Training
Military Concept: The "Pylon" Phase. Learning the mechanics of the machine.
DAILY SCRIPTURE & REFLECTION (Morning):
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." — Joshua 1:9
Reflection: I am putting the machine on my body. I will not be frightened of the new step. God is with me.
EXERCISE 1: TOTAL GYM CALF RAISE (Standing)
- Description: Stand on the slope of the Total Gym on the Prosthetic side. Rise up on toes.
- Clinical Purpose: Reprograms the Gastrocnemius muscle memory. Teaches the ankle to "Push Off" (Plantarflexion), which is critical for a normal walking speed.
- Log: _____ / 3 Sets of 12 Reps.
EXERCISE 2: TOTAL GYM SQUAT (Both Legs)
- Description: Stand on sled. Squat down and up.
- Clinical Purpose: Neuromuscular Control. Re-teaches the brain to balance on the new center of gravity.
- Log: _____ / 3 Sets of 10 Reps.
EXERCISE 3: "THE GHOST WALK" (Elliptical)
- Equipment: Elliptical (Moving Handles + Stationary Feet).
- Description: Put feet on side platforms. Use arms to pump. Visualize walking on cobblestones.
- Clinical Purpose: Gait Visualization. The brain processes the motion of walking even before the prosthetic is fully weight-bearing. It primes the neural pathways.
- Log: _____ / 30 Minutes.
EXERCISE 4: ROTATIONAL PUSHUPS (Pushup Stands)
- Equipment: Spinning Pushup Stands.
- Description: Standard Pushup. At the top, twist handles to release wrist tension.
- Clinical Purpose: Builds Upper Body Endurance. The twisting action recruits the Serratus Anterior, vital for stabilizing the shoulder blade during crutch/walker use.
- Log: _____ / 3 Sets to Failure.
END OF DAY THANKFULNESS:
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." — Galatians 6:9
