The Refining Fire: From the Ashes to the Armor
"For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways."
— Psalm 91:11 (ESV)
The recovery road is not a straight line; it is a forge. As I sit here in the midst of this painful period, I am reminded that the heat I feel is not just physical—it is the friction of a new life being forged.
Today presented a new challenge. I am getting used to a New Protector Cover with a Rigid Bottom. While this device is essential for shielding the surgical site, the rigid structure is adding a layer of additional pain to my recovery. It is a sharp reminder that the body is adapting to a new reality, and sometimes the "armor" fits tight before it feels like a second skin.
Yet, in the midst of this physical struggle, the "Angels" the Psalmist speaks of manifested today in human form. I was blessed to have a wonderful visit from my Music Pastor, Tom, and my sister, Mary.
Their presence was a balm to my spirit. In the quiet of the hospital room, we shared fellowship that transcended the sterile environment. I am so thankful for the pleasant visit—it was a divine interruption that reminded me I am not fighting this battle alone.
As I endure this pain, my mind keeps going back to the surgery itself. Despite the discomfort I feel right now with this new rigid cover, I remain overwhelmingly thankful for how well the amputation was done.
I look at the work the surgeon performed—the extended length, the muscle wrap, the minimal blood loss—and I see the hand of a craftsman. The surgery was a success, and that foundation gives me the confidence to push through this temporary pain.
I am being restored. I am being strengthened. And though the path is narrow and the fire is hot, I know that I am being guarded, guided, and rebuilt—from the ashes, with the weapons of God.
Ex Cinere.
