The Unveiling: A Testimony of Grace and Strength
"Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."
— Isaiah 43:19 (ESV)
Today, the bandages were removed, and I saw the result of the "Ex Cinere" promise.
I want to share the reveal of my new limb. It is a sight that brings a complex mix of emotions: the reality of the change, the physical sensation of the new shape, and an overwhelming, tearful thankfulness for the surgical precision that preserved my strength.
Looking at the healed stump, I see the "Strong Limb" my surgeon spoke of. I see the evidence of the muscle wrap that creates the cushion for the future. I see the clean, precise work that allowed me to wake up with "zero slurred speech" and "zero pain" despite the severity of the trauma. This is not just a wound healing; it is a testament to a job done to Best Results standards.
As I reflect on this moment, I have crafted a Thankfulness Mantra to recite daily as I transition from the operating table to the prosthetic world:
"I Am Thankful for the New Beginning.
I Am Thankful for the Pain That Proves I Am Healing.
I Am Thankful for the Skill That Saved My Life.
I Am Thankful for the Grace That Holds Me.
I Am Thankful for the Journey, Not Just the Destination."
"In the presence of your enemies you make a table; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows."
— Psalm 23:5 (ESV)
Just as God provided a table in the midst of enemies, He has provided a body that can rise, a spirit that can endure, and a path that is being paved for my advocacy. This limb is no longer just a biological remnant; it is the foundation for my work as a Mentor, a Warrior, and an Advocate.
The pain of the rigid cover will pass. The adjustment will take time. But the beauty of this reveal is undeniable. I am still here, I am still whole in spirit, and I am ready to walk this new path.
Ex Cinere Cum Armis Dei.
